Course Information for Students

An Operations/Departmental Manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects. They also achieve operational or departmental goals and objectives as part of the delivery of their organisation’s strategy.  Roles may include those of Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager and Department Manager as well as other specialist managers.

Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, their specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same. 

Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. 

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at grade 4 and above.

  • Personal Effectiveness – managing self

You will need to have all personal protective equipment (PPE) required to undertake the role legally and safely.

You will work with your assessor to ensure that you have all the knowledge and behaviours to complete the end-point assessment which will consist of:

  • Assessment of a portfolio of evidence
  • Project proposal, presentation and questions
  • Professional discussion, with questions and answers

You could progress to a Level 6 programme.

The apprentice will work with the assessor to ensure that they have all the knowledge and behaviours to complete the end-point assessment which will consist of:

  • A knowledge test using scenarios and questions = 30%
  • A structured competency-based interview = 20%
  • Assessment of a portfolio of evidence = 20%
  • Assessment of the work-based project followed by a presentation of the project with a question and answer session = 20%
  • Professional discussion = 10%

There will be no requirement to attend the College. However, the apprentice must have 20% off-the-job time to complete the course.

There may be a requirement to attend a different location to complete the end-point assessment.

The employer will need to provide the apprentice with all PPE required to undertake their role legally and safely.

They can progress to a Level 6 qualification.
